‘Queen Blue Maroon’ - As Tarots often used symbolism to illustrate what they are trying to represent, I used this character as a type of symbolism. The title was inspired by Queen Nanny the leader of the Jamaican Maroons, a community of formerly enslaved Africans who were brought to Jamaica and sought refuge in the island’s Blue Mountain region where they then fought the British for their freedom but I used her to represent all the strong black women that have come before us as well as those yet to come. Drawing parallels with this piece to pulling the upright Chariots card, she represents Direction, control, willpower, determination, success and action. She tells you that ‘now is the time to get what you want. Consider this card as a sign of encouragement. The Chariot tarot card is all about overcoming obstacles and achieving your goal through determination, focus, and willpower.’ even if that means arriving at a situation where you might have to compete with others potentially even escalating to a position where it might feel like more of an uphill battle having your strength and confidence tested.
