‘La Brea Beauty Queen’ -Having started this tarot series in Los Angeles, I took a lot of inspiration from people I passed it is also inspired by a photograph taken by Daniel Obasi. I love the fluidity and androgynous features this character carries and as I wanted to create my own interpretation of the tarots and create my own stories and meanings I still drew loose parallels and took influence from the pre existing cards. With this piece I drew similarities to The Empress card who, when appears upright ‘calls on you to connect with your feminine side. This can be translated in many ways – think of creativity, elegance, sensuality, fertility, and nurturing. She tells you to be kind to yourself and search for beauty and happiness in your life.’
