‘Monkey see, Monkey do’ -

Monkey see, Monkey do was in response to the devil card which, because of its symbolism can often seem daunting. However like with all the tarots it’s how you then decide to address it. That will then determine whether this becomes a bad omen or a cautionary sign.

I chose to use the symbolism of the monkeys and title as I felt as though often in black culture we have fallen victim to an entrapment of a cycle of self fulfilling prophecies, unfortunately encouraging the sentiments of a lot of the stereotypes that are so often placed upon us. I think a huge part of that comes down to the representation that is pushed onto us. Through everything from film to music to the news. How can we be expected to break a cycle, if there is no other point of reference. As the saying goes Monkey see, Monkey do.
