After Wallace –

Inspired by a trip to a Museum close to where I grew up, The Wallace collection. The Wallace Collection is this beautiful town house that was once owned by the Seymour family who were big art collectors in the 1800’s. I always used to go as a child, look at the art and imagine that I lived there, each time finding my favourite room to claim as my own. The décor is kept in a traditional French 18th century rococo style with very intricate attention to detail and was a big inspiration in this piece. As you can see each section uses different patterns inspired and taken from the wallpaper textiles and even some from the embroidery and embellishments on the armor, which is also a part of the collection. The composition of this piece is quite similar to the layout of a pyramid, which I intentionally did as a reflection on the British Class system. This piece can almost be read like a map each section showing a different part of a persons climb/journey to the top where I have painted a sun which is often used as a symbol to represent; enlightenment, life, power, strength, clarity and a sense of self. All things, which I see as traits that can ultimately lead you to freedom of the mind.
