'Almost Blue’
With this piece, I aimed to capture a feeling rather than a specific moment in time— The same feeling I feel Chet bakers ‘Almost Blue’ evokes. Often, emotions can overwhelm and obscure our perspective, clouding our vision. At the same time, it can be tempting to reminisce about happier times, softened by a different kind of haze—a warmer, more comforting one, much like the feeling of looking back at an old film photograph.
In Almost Blue, Baker speaks of longing to recreate past moments, yet never quite succeeding in reliving them. I wanted to explore that same emotional landscape, recapturing the experience of reminiscence through her eyes, with the subtle haze of melancholy being echoed through the blue pigment, subtly emerging from the darkness of the paper.
