'Astral Travelling’
This piece was initially inspired by Eadweard Muybridge’s pioneering photographic studies of motion. His work marked a pivotal moment in the history of photography, laying the groundwork for the concept of moving pictures. Muybridge didn’t just capture a single, static moment—he documented a sequence of movements, creating a continuous flow through time. Though primarily recognised as a photographer, his true legacy lies in his innovations, which broke numerous barriers, catapulting photographic techniques to a whole new stratosphere. I wanted to echo that notion in this piece.
I was drawn to the idea that Muybridge wasn’t confined by the limitations of time. He discovered a way to "tame" motion, capturing something beyond a single, static second and preserving it forever. The concept of freezing time, of holding onto a moment indefinitely, is something I find deeply magical.
With this piece, I sought to recapture that magic by bending the concept of time in my own way. The character leaps through the hoops of time while the world remains still around him, symbolising the ability to transcend the ordinary constraints of time and motion.
