Beauty Jackson –

Titled after the track ‘Beauty Jackson’ by Ghostface Killah, its one of my favourite songs as I love the sample he’s used (Maybe by The Three Degrees) and the format of how he’s just narrating a very simple everyday story. He speaks of a day when he’s walking past a bus stop where there’s a woman sitting waiting for her bus, he becomes instantly intrigued by her and begins to start a conversation with her. Hypnotized by her voice (the sample) he becomes infatuated with her as she lights her cigarette and speaks in this dreamy sultry voice. She initially doesn’t show too much interest when he first asks for her number but as the bus arrives he gets into his car and once she sees the car he’s driving it draws her attention, so she then asks for his number before they both go their separate ways. ‘Beauty Jackson’ is a piece I painted to continue the story. In the painting she’s outside his room smoking a cigarette while he’s looking out at the viewer from the inside. I like the idea of having some of my characters almost interact with the viewer of my painting to almost break the glass between the story and the observer.
