It’s a Long Way to Tomorrow -
Narrates the story of a family of passers by on their way to a ‘better tomorrow’ which is portrayed on a billboard above the bus stop. With the billboard I really wanted to play on the idea of the ‘grass is always greener on the other side’. I painted a happy couple shown smiling in a sort of oasis type landscape with a woman sunbathing freely in the background. I use a lot of birds in my paintings as symbolism to represent freedom as a reference to the Nina Simone song ‘Feeling good’. I spent the last few months in LA and always found the duality between hope and desperation against the beauty that exists here, is quite interesting and wanted to incorporate that into this piece.
