'Mr Man'

Mr Man –

Based on a character from one of my dads projects ‘Growing up Black’ where he documented the lives of black people in east London from the 60’s -70’s. The man in this painting was inspired by one of the men in one of my favourite photos from that project. I’ve left the woman with no identity, as a comment to what would have been seen as the woman’s role in the society of that time, to serve men. Exposing only her ribs to show how often women were forced to suppress their feelings and thoughts, but to not undermine the pain of it.
