'Celestial Love'

Celestial Love  -

The title, meaning an endless, indestructible love that has the power to survive anything from tragedy to separation was taken from the title of a Sun Ra Song. Sun Ra is a big inspiration for me, one of my favourite films, visually, is his film Space is the Place and I just love how he was able to create his own realm of creativity where everything from his visuals to his music, lyrics and even the way he presented himself was all in synch. He really created his own universe to exist in and invited people in through his music and other art forms. Essentially this piece is a reflection on black love. There’s a lot of obstacles you have to overcome when nurturing something so beautiful against the odds and statistics. It’s rare to see a couple that have survived through the test of time, so imagine adding the stresses and struggle of race and oppression on top. That’s another reason why I felt this title quite fitting, it’s an otherworldly type of love that is a rarity on this earth.
