‘Sentiments of The Dreams Passed Lived’ -
I wanted this piece to feel like a time capsule or an old photo capturing one beautiful moment that can forever be revisited when gazing into its portal. I find that a lot of the memories I have from when I was younger, when reflecting on them, are often presented as slightly hazy and patchy but if I see a photo from a specific moment, it all comes to life and the thoughts, smells and sounds of that memory for a brief second come back. Thats what I hoped to recapture through the eyes of the characters within the piece. As if the characters could even be, or seem like they are in the present reliving and reflecting on a memory left behind.
The colours and backdrop were inspired by the beauty and vibrancy of my surroundings in Jamaica. I picked orange to echo some of the mesmerising sunsets as well as it being symbolism for not only joy but strength and endurance which are two things I strongly relate to Jamaica and to what this year for me has really represented. This year a lot of people were really pushed to the edge/brink of their limitations and a lot of people surpassed that proving really what, they are capable of in order to survive and provide for themselves and their family. And I think often in times of darkness and desperation people look to different mediums of art as a form of escape. Whether it be music, film, painting or photography etc. I hope that this piece can offer a brief moment of escape, remind someone of a time or moment of joy or to give them a second to be able to reminisce on how despite everything, how beautiful this world was and could be again.
