‘A Touch Of Spring’
The title was inspired by a lyric from one of my favourite Gil Scott Heron songs ‘A Very Precious Time’. I started this piece during the first moment of what felt like spring in London. My favourite time of the year. I think, especially when I’m in London as the winter always seems to drag on for so long and being a person who loves the sun and heat, UK winters can often take its toll. More than the cold I think the thing that affects me the most is the darkness and the lack of colour that I’m able to absorb through these, what feels like never ending months of dreariness. The sun rises at around 10 and sets at around 3:30 and though it may rise it does not promise to be seen, often hidden behind heavy clouds of grey that echoes the grey and rigidness of the cityscape. That’s why I feel Spring can seem almost magical here. It’s the first glimpse of something new after being starved of blue skies and sun for so long it evokes an excitement among everyone that managed to endure this long and heavy past few months.
