'The High Priestess'

The High Priestess card is often depicted as a kind of female pope type figure and when upright used to symbolise unconscious, intuition, mystery, spirituality, higher power. She is traditionally shown to be placed between 2 pillars (Or in my adaption 2 mountains); Jachin the pillar of establishment and Boaz the pillar of strength. The pillars also depict the duality of nature; masculine and feminine, good and evil, negative and positive and she is meant to represent the path in between, the mediator between both opposing sides as she believes that both pillars are equal and there is knowledge to be learned in both worlds.

When reversed it can often signify becoming too lost within the world you’ve created and too indulgent of your self reflection and isolation that you’ve abandoned the real world. So I wanted to create an almost outer-worldly backdrop to also reflect and acknowledge her other forms sometimes shown in the archetypes of Persephone, Artemis, Isis and many more.
