'The Lone Dreamer'

'The Lone Dreamer' is an adaptation of the hermit card. Which is often used to symbolise self-reflection, introspection, contemplation and withdrawal but as healthy as all of those traits are in excess, like with most things these traits can also lead you to become over self indulgent and isolate you from reality. I liked the idea of using a puppet to illustrate how, often when looking at yourself in introspection you might find yourself detaching/separating yourself from your physical self in order to reflect on a situation from an outward perspective. Whether it be looking at it from a birdseye view/perspective or placing yourself in another’s shoes.

But when spending too much time cut off from reality and from interactions from people other than oneself. I think it can blur the line of what conclusions were drawn solely in one’s head or with the guide of another’s perspective. This comfort of being able to carry a dialogue by yourself without fear of any real push back or contradictions can then make it all too easy for you to be fulfilled enough by your own company and inner self dialogue that you choose to close yourself off from the rest of the world. Becoming a hermit and choosing to become the protagonist of your own one man show.
