The scream –
In response to the piece by Edvard Munch. I’ve always found this piece so captivating and wanted to recapture this energy through the eyes of someone black. There’s often a stereotype given to people of colour that portrays us as angry and aggressive, sometimes stifling people from their freedom to truly express how they feel. What I love about Munch’s piece that I hoped to recreate is the idea that you almost expect to hear someone howling by looking at the piece but sometimes silence is stronger than any amount of noise you could make and for me it’s the absence of that scream that you expect to hear when looking at it that makes this piece so poignant.
