‘Through The Eyes of The Beholder’ -
I chose this title as I’ve found that in life there are many different realms within which you can choose to exist in. Each door holds a portal to completely different perspectives, aspirations and pathways to different types of destinations and achievements. Making each view tailored to that of the beholder. Some people choose to live a simple but stable life, working a 9-5 job, getting married to have kids, never trying to really challenge their boundaries or question anything that could potentially upset the natural order of things. Some people choose a more un conventional, risk taking route following dreams which might not always offer them the stability or comfort a steady paying job would bring them.
Having recently spent some time in Jamaica, one thing that really stuck with me is the energy of the people. Everyone’s happy and positive, living life at whichever pace they choose and though they might not all be as affluent as the average westerner their wealth transpired through other forms and far surpassed the value of materialistic success often obsessed over by those of the west. Talking to people there about life, aspirations and values I really appreciated how a lot of their outlooks/perspectives focused on the present enjoying the journey that life sets out for you rather than rushing through time antagonising over the destination and what could or could’ve been. It made me question whether that was a path that if I chose to explore might ultimately make me happier.
This piece was inspired by the small/brief moments I’d sometimes see people indulging themselves in. A small yet precious moment of reflection and contemplation as a reminder of the beauty and blessings that was passed onto us.
